Senegal/Senegal: President Bassirou Diomaye Faye appoints Ousmane Sonko Prime Minister

In Senegal, things are moving very quickly. A few hours after taking official office as President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye immediately named Ousmane Sonko Prime Minister of his future government.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye had promised co-management of power with his mentor and companion in the fight against the now former head of state Macky Sall. One thing said, one thing done a few hours after his inauguration as the fifth president of Senegal.

“I measure the importance of the trust he (President Faye) has placed in me,” declared Ousmane Sonko on RTS, thanking him and guaranteeing his “loyalty” and “dedication”.

The founder of the party of African Patriots of Senegal for work, ethics and fraternity (Pastef), was ineligible and could not be a presidential candidate. There was no question of letting Bassirou Diomaye Faye, his replacement candidate, govern alone, as he explained in a first speech Tuesday evening.
