Africa / Diplomacy: Choguel Maïga salutes the leadership of Faure Gnassingbé

On the sidelines of the 9th Pan-African Congress held in Bamako from March 14 to 15, a significant meeting took place between the Malian Prime Minister, Choguel Maïga, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Togo, the diplomat Robert Dussey. During their discussions, the Malian Prime Minister sent special congratulations to Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé for his commitment to resolving regional crises.

“Togo played a crucial role with an independent and Africanist position in resolving the crises,” said Choguel Maïga, praising the peaceful approach and active mediation of President Gnassingbé. He underlined the merit of Togo for its contribution to maintaining stability in the sub-region, saluting the leadership of President Faure Gnassingbé.

The Prime Minister also highlighted Togo's leading role on the regional diplomatic scene despite its modest size. He stressed that, although younger in ECOWAS, Togo has asserted itself as a wise and respected actor, attracting consultations from neighboring countries and Western powers.

“President Faure Gnassingbé will remain engraved in the history of Mali for his crucial role in maintaining peace and regional stability,” added Choguel Maïga, highlighting the visionary leadership of the Togolese president.

Regarding the common aspirations of countries in the region, the Malian Prime Minister stressed the importance of economic autonomy and respect for national sovereignty. He advocated for greater autonomy in setting prices for commodities such as cocoa and gold, emphasizing the need to take national interests into account in international decisions.
